Methodology

The method, without compromise

A guide is only worth something if it keeps its promises. Here is how every page is built, checked, dated and corrected.

On-site checks: I go there in person

Nothing replaces being there. Before recommending a restaurant, a guesthouse, a trail or a wine estate, I go. I eat, I sleep, I walk, I taste. I note the prices on the menu, observe the welcome and record the state of the place. A page published without an on-site visit carries the label “Not visited” and does not appear in the main recommendations.

Primary sources: no copy and paste

Every figure, date and historical fact is tied to its source. The sources I accept:

  • INSEE: demographics, businesses, income, housing (source: insee.fr)
  • Town halls & inter-municipal bodies: opening hours, facility charges, municipal orders, local urban plans (PLU)
  • DRAC Bourgogne-Franche-Comté: historic monuments, labels, protections (source: culture.gouv.fr)
  • BIVB: wine figures, appellations, acreages, yields (source: vins-bourgogne.fr)
  • Accredited tourist offices: for visitor-numbers data and official events
  • Daily local press: Le Bien Public and Le Journal de Saône-et-Loire for news on the ground

The following are not considered primary sources: Wikipedia (useful for orientation, never for citation), travel blogs, review sites (TripAdvisor, Google Maps) and unsourced entries from other guides.

Guaranteed freshness: a real date, not a display

The date shown on each page (dateModified) is the date of the last Git commit on the Markdown source file, not a manually entered date. This rules out made-up dates. A page not modified for more than a year shows a discreet visual alert.

Public corrections: zero silent corrections

Any error reported through the contact form or by email is dealt with within 48 hours. The correction is published on the Editorial Charter with: the date, the place concerned, the original error, the correction, and the contributor's name (unless they decline). This transparency is the only safeguard against drift.

Total independence: no ads, no affiliation, no disguised partnership

This guide contains no advertising, no affiliate links and no sponsored content. The economic model is personal: I fund the hosting, the domain name and my travel. The professionals featured in the guide have paid nothing to be there. They are there because I visited them and they meet the criteria.

What I do not do (and why)

  • I do not invent anecdotes to fill a gap in the information.
  • I do not describe a visit I have not made.
  • I do not rank addresses according to a payment or a personal relationship.
  • I do not publish a press release without cross-checking it.
  • I do not recommend “the best”: I describe what exists, with its strengths and its limits.
