In short: a holiday rental is the most flexible way to stay in Côte-d’Or. The offer runs from a Dijon studio at €70 a night to a 15-person group gîte in the Auxois at €2,000 a week. Around a thousand self-catering tourist lets are classified in the département.
Renting a house or flat lets you cook market produce, host family or friends, and settle in for several days without the closeness of a hotel room. Côte-d’Or has a varied rental stock, from flats in Dijon’s historic centre to isolated vigneron houses among the climats.
Flats in Dijon
Dijon’s historic centre holds most of the rental offer. Older buildings (sixteenth–eighteenth centuries) house renovated flats, often with exposed beams and period parquet.
Typical prices:
- Studio / one-bed centre: €70–100/night
- Two- / three-bed centre: €90–150/night
- Large flat (four beds+): €140–250/night
Recommended neighbourhoods:
- Historic centre (secteur sauvegardé): the most practical, everything on foot. Higher prices, awkward parking.
- Antiques quarter (rue Verrerie, rue Auguste Comte): quieter, a 10-minute walk from the centre. A good compromise.
- Faubourg Raines / avenue Victor Hugo: residential area 15–20 minutes on foot. Softer prices, easier parking.
Most Dijon rentals are booked on the usual platforms (Airbnb, Abritel, Booking). The market tightens in September (conferences, harvest) and November (Hospices auction). Book 4 to 6 weeks ahead for those periods.
Houses in the vineyard
Renting a house in a wine village is the most immersive option. You live among the rows, a few minutes’ walk from estates, with a view over the climats.
Most sought-after villages:
- Gevrey-Chambertin: 9 grands crus, well-regarded tables, TER station. Houses for 4–8 people, €700–1,400/week.
- Pommard / Volnay: quiet small villages, tastings on foot. Houses for 4–6 people, €550–1,100/week.
- Meursault / Puligny-Montrachet: the great whites. Renovated houses with exposed stone, €600–1,300/week.
- Nuits-Saint-Georges: lively small town, TER station, shops. Houses for 4–10 people, €500–1,200/week.
Prices rise in September (harvest, photogenic red vines) and fall in winter (November–February), when you will find availability and rates 20 to 30% lower.
Group gîtes in the Auxois and Morvan
For family gatherings, weekends with friends or small seminars, the Auxois and Morvan offer large-capacity gîtes in striking settings.
- Converted mill in the Auxois: 12–15 people, €1,200–2,000/week.
- Morvan farmstead: 10–20 people, €800–1,800/week. Often with a large garden, barbecue and private pond.
- Manor house in Semur-en-Auxois: 8–12 people, €900–1,600/week.
These gîtes are booked via Gîtes de France (“group gîtes”), Clévacances, or local community websites. Book 3 to 6 months ahead for summer months and May bank-holiday weekends.
Platforms and labels
General platforms
General platforms, notes
- Airbnb: the largest offer in Dijon and Beaune. Filter by “Superhost” to avoid disappointments.
- Abritel / Vrbo: more oriented towards houses and larger properties, smaller catalogue than Airbnb.
- Booking.com: also lists flats, often the same as Airbnb with different service fees.
Labels and classification
- Gîtes de France: the historic network; each gîte is visited and rated (1 to 5 épis). Direct booking with no platform fee.
- Clévacances: rival label to Gîtes de France, also rated (1 to 5 keys).
- Meublé de tourisme: prefectural star rating from 1 to 5, required for any declared furnished let. Check that the property has a town-hall declaration number.
Avoiding scams
- Be wary of listings with no reviews or overly perfect photos (stock images).
- Never pay outside the platform (direct bank transfer).
- Check that the address exists on Google Maps/Street View.
- Abnormally low prices for Beaune or Dijon in high season are suspicious.
Practical tips
- Linen: many rentals charge for sheets and towels (€10–20 per person). Check before booking.
- Cleaning: end-of-stay cleaning is often charged at €40–80. Some owners require guests to clean themselves.
- Heating: in older stone houses, heating can be limited. In winter, ask whether a heating surcharge applies.
- Pets: always say if you are bringing a dog. Many rentals accept them with a surcharge (€15–30 per stay).
- Arrival/departure: standard hours are 4–5 pm for arrival and 10–11 am for departure. Some owners are flexible, ask.
